Cellulite is the transformation and alteration of the subcutaneous interstitial tissues of different areas of the body. It is due to a malfunction of the microcirculation and the connective tissue. It is found mainly on the thighs (saddlebags), hips, buttocks and upper arms of most mature women and abdomen of men. It has the appearance of irregular, lumpy skin, such as "orange peel" or “cottage cheese”. Heredity, hormonal changes, eating habits, smoking, tight attire and stress can play a role in the development and progression of cellulite.
Various types and stages of cellulite have been described and are associated with several symptoms. Sensitivity to the touch, pain, swelling, numbness, leg tiredness and heaviness are symptoms that have been experienced.
Appearance and symptomatology can be improved by means of mechanical or chemical therapies. Diet or exercise only do not decrease cellulite.
TriActive Laser Dermologie, Carboxytherapy, Endermology, Mesotherapy, Liporeduction, topical creams and ointments are complementary non-surgical treatments for cellulite. A diet high in proteins, drinking two liters of water a day and exercise are recommended for the prevention of cellulite.
